One of the most popular outdoor activities is right in Gatlinburg – The Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail. A 6-miles one-way looping drive with twists and turns through the scenic Great Smoky Mountains. It starts at the Noah “Bud” Ogle farmstead and has historic buildings along a walking tour. You’ll see the trailhead for Rainbow Falls. A 3-mile hike and you’ll be surrounded by the beauty of an 80-foot waterfall.
If hiking isn’t your thing, the Place of a Thousand Drips is accessible by car at stop 15, near the end of the beautiful and fun Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail.
The Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail is a scenic drive that will take you through some of the most stunning natural wonders of Tennessee.
Not only does it offer beautiful views along the main road, but it can also be used as an access point for hidden gems that are only accessible if you park and hike.

The air is crisp, country air. You’ll find your worries just slip away so you’ll want to spend some time taking in the views.
You’ll drive through all kinds of natural scenery to reach the observation point at the top, and the mountains will slowly come into view as you rise higher and higher. It’s a great place to experience how the Smokies got them name as a mist often hangs over the mountains – picturesque.
By the time that you officially reach the Gatlinburg Scenic Overlook, you’ll be in awe of your surroundings.
In the autumn, multicolored leaves are scattered everywhere.
And don’t be surprised to see bears rumbling in the distance or deer darting through the trees.
